University Initiatives

Bike Co-op

The Bike Co-op is located on the South side of the Student Recreation Center (SRC). The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 10am to 4pm.

The ASU Police Department has launched a bicycle registration program as part of its initiative to reduce bicycle theft. You can do your part by registering your bicycle online at Bike.ASU.edu You will need the basic description of the bike, color, make, model, and the serial number which is generally located on the bottom of the bike frame underneath the pedal crankshaft. Other possible locations are displayed in a diagram under the Serial Number box on the registration form. In addition, don’t hesitate to report suspicious activity near the bike racks (i.e. a person lingering in the area with no apparent purpose, someone in the racks who has bolt cutters, someone who parks one bike and then takes another to ride away on) by calling 480-965-3456 or using a Blue Light emergency call box. The ASU Police Department will be deploying bait bikes with GPS tracking to aid with the initiative. Thanks for partnering with us – that’s the Sun Devil Way!

Current Update

“The Student Engagement Department is in the middle of creating a packet for next year’s department, developing goals for next year’s staff members, ideas for the future and ways to improve the department, Sun Devils Count and Student Engagement intern experience. We also finalized our major goals for the year’s end, with a major focus in social media. Tell everyone to follow Sun Devils Count on Facebook and @SunDevilsCount on Twitter! We post multiple times a day providing information about Sun Devils Count and events going on around campuses. Lastly, we are starting this week to promote our raffle for our major reward this year – an ASU All Access Parking Permit. April is the big month to get the final points and join in on the raffle, which will be drawn on Reading Day!”

“As usual, the Student Engagement Department is working hard on getting the word out about Sun Devils Count. We have spoken with multiple organizations in the past few weeks, such as RHA Tempe and Devils in Disguise, to promote the app and provide an opportunity for them to publicize their events. We had our final department meeting of the semester on Sunday, where we started creating goals for next year’s staff members, ideas for the future and ways to improve the app and the intern program. We also finalized our major goals for the year’s end, with a major focus in social media. Tell everyone to follow Sun Devils Count on Facebook and @SunDevilsCount on Twitter! We post multiple times a day providing information about Sun Devils Count and events going on around campuses. Lastly, we are preparing to promote our raffle for our major reward this year – an ASU All Access Parking Permit. April is the big month to get the final points and join in on the raffle!”

Week of March 18, 2013

“This week, the Student Engagement department has nearly reached 300 event registrations for Sun Devils Count, which we are very excited about! Student organizations and departments are consistently using the app to upload events, and more groups are starting to hear about the app through USG roundtables, staff members and the app’s social media and website. We have gotten nearly 20 more likes on Facebook, which is our weekly goal for followers. Our 200th like on Facebook will win a Game Day shirt as an incentive to add followers! We have more than 60 new followers on Twitter, and we are excited to consistently post about events going on each day on Sun Devils Count to spread the word. USG’s Outreach Director will be sending out a message to all student organization presidents with the Sun Devils Count 101 e-book, which provides basic information, a how-to guide, a script to read at Sun Devils Count events and marketing materials for student organizations to read through and use! Lastly, we will be asking all ASU Dance Marathon attendees to check in to Sun Devils Count at the event this Friday and randomly selecting winners of Sun Devils Count prizes for those who check in that night.”

Week of February 4th, 2013

“The Student Engagement department has been working hard this week to plan and host USG Tempe’s first student organization roundtable, under the direction of Outreach Director Adam Silverman! The event was held at Bad Mother Cluckers with around 15 organizations represented by ASU student leaders. There, we were able to provide updates on USG initiatives and provide an in-depth demonstration of Sun Devils Count, where all the event attendees checked into the organization event on the app to view how it works. They provided some wonderful feedback and the Student Engagement department is planning on speaking to multiple organizations upon request about Sun Devils Count and how to use it as an ASU student. Our department also uploaded around 35 events this week, and we’re excited to see more student organizations submitting events to the app. Our interns have been working very hard to post to our social media pages multiple times a day promoting the app, rewards and events submitted for that day by ASU groups. We have around 50 more followers on each of our pages from the past two weeks alone and are hoping for the increase to continue!”

“Student Engagement has been working hard on Sun Devils Count over the past week! We held training for our two new interns, Kevin and Nicole, this weekend and I am so excited they are joining the team. Both are involved in student organizations at ASU and have a lot of great ideas to offer for the rest of the semester. We have added around 30 event submissions from student organizations in the past week and are hoping for even more groups to catch on. I will be adding our newest rewards to the rewards catalog on the Sun Devils Count website; I just received the photos from USG’s photographer, Sam, and they turned out great. Along with the Outreach Director, Adam, I am in the final steps of planning a Sun Devils Count 101/student organization roundtable event on February 5 at Bad Mother Cluckers, where all student organizations have been invited by Adam to hear about USG’s initiatives, provide feedback and take part in a demo of Sun Devils Count check-in events. I am currently preparing a “Sun Devils Count 101″ e-book for organizations to use, with tips, information and marketing materials for groups hosting Sun Devils Count events that we can email out to groups after the roundtable event.”

“A lot of work has been done over the past few weeks to add to the Student Engagement Coordinator position and to prepare Sun Devils Count for the coming semester! We held interviews for intern positions and are thrilled to add on two interns who will start with Student Engagement soon: Kevin Moore and Nicole Reed. I added around 60 event submissions from student organizations in the past two weeks alone, so we are all happy to see student groups catching on to the app. I added some new ASU Bookstore rewards to the rewards catalog on the Sun Devils Count website. Along with the Outreach Director, I have started planning for a Sun Devils Count 101/student organization roundtable event, where all student organizations will be invited to hear about USG’s initiatives, provide feedback and take part in a demo of Sun Devils Count check-in events. We are also preparing a “Sun Devils Count 101″ e-book for organizations to use, with tips, information and marketing materials for groups hosting Sun Devils Count events. We have a busy few months ahead getting more students interested in the app, following our social media and playing for rewards, but I’m very excited about it!”

Final 2012 Update

“As Student Engagement Coordinator this week, I uploaded 43 event submissions to Sun Devils Count and focused on creating relationships with student organizations via Twitter. Our Twitter page now has about 107 followers, which I still hope to increase significantly, and we have 130 Facebook followers. I have been promoting events through Twitter to student organizations that follow Sun Devils Count and those that don’t, in the hopes of increasing following and receiving event requests from them in the future. The Sun Devils Count email address, sundevilscount@gmail.com, has received some really great questions and interest from student organization leaders regarding the submission and check-in process, so I have been working with those groups. I am not positive as to whether the email template Mark and I created has been sent out to student-organization leaders yet, but I am hoping it will soon. I am not as far along with contacting sponsors as I would like to be quite yet since my current school schedule limits my ability to meet during the week, but Winter Break will provide me with much more availability to contact businesses to discuss sponsorship opportunities.”

Week of September 10th, 2012

“I met with Sarah Mason from Tempe Transit and we started planning a safety day that will take place in October. Health & Wellness, Devils in the Bedroom, Safety Escort, and ASU/Tempe Police will have booths set up at MU stage with Walk your Wheels. There will be food, free raffles, flyers and information for students about different safety programs  for students on campus. There will be a open student forum in mid November that will be open to students for their questions about Walk your Wheels.”

Week of September 3rd, 2012

I have been in contact with Sarah Mason who works with Tempe transit and there will be an event on September 13th at Hayden lawn from 11-1pm. It’s the kickoff event for the year and Tempe police, USG and possibly other vendors will be there with booths, raffles and other activities for students.

I am in the beginning stages of planning an event for mid October. It is another safety type day with police, walk your wheels and safety escort. There will be food, raffles, games and information booths.
