Welcome
Sun Devils, I want to take the time to say welcome back. Welcome back to what I know will be another wonderful year at Arizona State University. I hope that you all took advantage of your summer break, and used the time off to travel, relax, and spend time with family and friends. Whether you are returning to our university, or are an incoming freshman, I hope that you are excited for the new year. I assure you it will bring many great experiences and opportunities.
It truly is the perfect time to be a Sun Devil. We have become a university that dreams big, one that is always moving forward. By embracing change and innovation, our University is continually evolving. Arizona State University has become home to the largest student body in the nation, a feat that is revered by every other school in the country. We have become one university, in many places. We have grown and developed into four campuses, which are spread across the entire valley. Arizona State University is enabling student success, engaging globally, and transforming our society. We are socially embedded, value entrepreneurship, and we are conducting use-inspired research that will change the world.
So this year be proud to be a Sun Devil! Embrace the Spirit, the Pride, and the Tradition of this University. Wear gold on Fridays, pack the stands, and on gameday raise your voices so loud that they echo from the Buttes!
I ask you to join us this year in embracing ASU’s newest tradition, Devils on Mill. This will be the new pre-game celebration that will be held on 6th Street and Mill before every ASU home football game. Devils on Mill will feature live entertainment, free food, games, and more. This event will not only be fun for underclassmen, but also for the upperclassmen who are above the age of 21. I invite you to come join us to celebrate on Mill Avenue before we march onward to victory later on in the afternoon.
I also invite you to join us for this year’s Fall Welcome Concert, featuring B.O.B and the Far East Movement. Student Government and PAB worked hard this summer to bring you these artists, and to allow you to attend the concert completely free of charge. The concert will be Tuesday, August 21, if you have not received your ticket yet, please visit https://students.asu.edu/fallwelcomeconcert.
Our team has been busy this summer advocating for you, and we cannot wait to continue our work throughout this school year. We are absolutely honored to serve as your voice at the decision making table, and we hope that you will utilize us, your Student Government, to bring about the change you want to see at our University. Please email me, Facebook me, call me, or visit me at my office, which is located on the 3rd floor of the Memorial Union. I would love to get to know you all throughout the course of the year.
As we start a new year, I want to leave you with a few words of advice.
This year, dream big, and follow those dreams. This year, dream big, and follow those dreams. With hard work and dedication, I assure you that those dreams will become a reality. At this University endless opportunities await you, so dare to explore them all! Join new organizations, or advance yourself within the ones you already participate in. Wisdom is only achieved through experience, so become an active and engaged member of our community. Strive to leave a legacy. As we all know, this college journey we have embarked on goes by fast, so let’s be sure to make it last, and make the best out of every single day. Remember that, as students, this is our University. Never forget to fight for what you believe in, and advocate strongly for what you hold true. These college years help us define who we are, so be the best, push yourself, and go out and create the change that you want to see.
Lastly, remember that you are a Sun Devil. So never give up, never back down, and always be sure to give ‘em Hell!!
